If you’re looking for a great cycle route in the Lake District, a cycle around Derwent water lake is a great choice.
I started at The Derwent water Hotel car park. You can visit this link to view places to stay in Derwent Water.
You can take some of the route via the paths directly around the lake, however there are some spots where it narrows on the shore line into a very rocky path. These are fine for walking, but I had to carry my bike to get around some of these areas. So only recommend this route if you are physically fit enough to carry your bike or are up for the challenge.
There are main roads that you can take and these came in handy a few times to get past the tricky spots. Once you get to the bottom of the lake, it is easier to return to the paths and get closer to the lake again.
You will see so many cool things along the way and for some of the route you can enter an ancient woodland.
The whole route took about 1 hr and 40 minutes, taking it steady and was approx 10 miles.
Just before the end of the ride there was time for a cheeky pint at the Swinside Inn which had the most incredible garden view !
Then when you’ve had a rest and are ready for a well earned Sunset view, be sure to take a short trip to Skiddaw car park for a magnificent view over Derwent Water and Keswick.
Here are a few photos from the day,
Enjoy 🙂
